Ed of the class? WA bolter on Cats’ radar as stocks rise
Geelong have emerged as another potential suitor for Claremont son of a gun Ed Allan, whose stocks continue to rise less than a fortnight out from the national draft.
The 194cm utility is one of several players on the Cats’ draft radar as they weigh up their options for the prized pick seven acquired from Gold Coast in the Jack Bowes salary-dump trade.
Allan, the son of former Fremantle captain, coach and Hawthorn premiership player Ben, bounced back from a long-term back injury to produce a dominant finish to the WAFL colts season.
The Scotch College graduate averaged more than 25 possessions, six marks and four tackles for the final five games of the year.
He also produced a strong national combine, winning the 20m sprint with a blistering time of 2.81 seconds which was the fifth-fastest time in combine history.
Ben fell two games shy of Ed qualifying as a father-son prospect for the Hawks and 53 short at Fremantle.
Both of his dad’s former clubs have interviewed him, likewise with West Coast who are considering him with one of their first-round picks (eight and 12).
