Gas firms must ‘share some pain’ on power bills: McGowan
Premier Mark McGowan has told the bosses of some of the biggest gas producers they cannot “say no to everything” and “need to come up with solutions” to skyrocketing energy prices over east.
The comments come as resources companies ramp up an advertising campaign opposing the introduction of a mining tax, which could target the windfall profits being reaped by coal and gas producers.
The Albanese Government’s first Budget last month thought national electricity prices would jump 56 per cent over the next two years, partly as a result of gas spiking 44 per cent in the same period.
Mr McGowan revealed he had met with the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association board on Wednesday evening.
